Every year Spondon Neighbourhood Board agrees projects that are funded from the budget provided by Derby City Council.
One project funded by the Board and delivered with the support of local residents, Councillors and the Parks Team is the new planting behind the Village Hall. Local resident Jennifer Slatcher has helped finish off the work funded by the Board to improve the area by planting up the two planters (pictured right) with plants funded by the Board.
At the last Spondon Neighbourhood Board meeting the Board agreed a number of new projects to help tackle problems that have been raised:
Additional Civil Enforcement Officer time - to provide 30 additional hours to be used patrolling the Village Centre to address complaints about parking on the double yellow lines and on the footways. In addition they will be used to support the School Parking campaign giving advice and enforcing parking across driveways near to Spondon schools.
Concrete bollards - To install bollards on the footways at the junction of Devas Gardens and West Road to make the footways safer for school children walking to and from school.
Too Fast signs - To install four signs on Sancroft Road in response to concerns about speeding and to encourage safer driving
Two new 'Parking signs' on Sitwell Street - To install two low level signs to indicate parking spaces behind the Village Hall to encourage greater use of the available spaces
Tree - to plant a replacement tree behind Spondon Village Hall
Free Bulky Waste - To top up the original budget of £1,000 to enable the service to be free until the beginning of November. The budget has now all been used and the bulky waste service will now need to be paid for. Nearly 80 households benefitted from the free service.
Road closure - To enable the Spondon Alight event to benefit from the Sitwell Street road closure allowing residents to enjoy a variety of activities in safe surroundings
