July Update from Spondon Neighbourhood Board

The Spondon Neighbourhood Board priorities for 2012/13 are:

1. Improve Community Engagement and Empowerment

  • Communicate work of Spondon Board
  • Gather views of young people and engage them in decisions
  • Promote ways to get involved
  • Support formation of community groups

    2. Improve highways and transport in Spondon

  • Promote 'green' modes of transport
  • Make roads and footways safer in Spondon
  • Improve accessibility of facilities
  • Promote public transport
  • Parking in the Village
  • Tackle the issues of heavy goods vehicles through the Village

    3. Improve the environment in Spondon

  • Climate change
  • Reduce dog mess and litter
  • Improve appearance of public open spaces

    4. Improve community safety in Spondon

  • Reduce antisocial behaviour
  • Tackle auto crime
  • Crime prevention - dwelling burglary
  • Reduce the fear of crime

    5. Create a thriving and vibrant Spondon

  • Promote Spondon as a place to live, shop and visit
  • Develop and improve positive activities and facilities for young people
  • Promote and improve activities and facilities for older people
  • Promote community events
  • Access to work

    6. Create a healthier Spondon community

  • Access to health provision
  • Obesity
  • Support local GP Practices priorities

    Board funding allocated towards these priorities so far this year:

  • £1,450 to the Jubilee Committee for running costs of the Jubilee Weekend celebrations
  • £1,688 to the communications project to fund articles in C&C Magazine.

    Additionally, money from the fund to improve youth provision, safety and highways in Spondon has been allocated as follows:

  • £700 to the Young Mums Group for equipment and group activities
  • £3,277 for the provision of a summer holiday activities programme for 2012 plus the set up of a Friday Night Dance Club at Craddock Avenue Youth Club.
