Spondon Councillor Nicola Roulstone has provided an update on the latest action being taken to try to reduce the issue of heavy traffic and parking problems during school run time in Spondon:
"Continuing our efforts to tackle school parking issues around Spondon Schools, we have visited Spondon schools several times recently to advise parents around the need for considerate parking around schools.
During one of days, we were joined by enforcement officers, local PCSOs and the fire service to help raise awareness of the need for access for emergency vehicles.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of vehicles and inconsiderate drivers, the fire engine was unable to reach West Park School, resulting in the need to reverse back out of West Road. This clearly highlights the need for the issues to be addressed and we will continue to advise drivers and have spoken to each school requesting parents to be considerate during the school run.
I personally spoke to several students from West Park who were concerned that the fire engine was actually attending an emergency. After some reassurance and explanation as to why the fire engine was there, one young man said "I'll tell my mum to pick me up from the village from now on. What if this was a really emergency?" I was impressed by the attitudes of the children and hope the message reaches parents. The Neighbourhood Board has also arranged for additional hours from enforcement officers and the camera car. Fines will be issued where appropriate.
