More frequent train services are finally set to return to Spondon from mid-December.
Spondon has been without a regular rail service since June 2021 when operator East Midlands Railway (EMR) pulled its timetable on the route. At the time, EMR described the move as a 'temporary measure' due to a combination of COVID-related staff shortages and a shortage of available train stock to successfully deliver the service. However, the service failed to rematerialise during the subsequent 18 months.
However, more frequent trains will now stop again at Spondon from 12th December onwards. This will include three trains in each direction - approximately one per hour - during the weekday morning and evening rush hour periods. There will also now be up to 20 trains per day to and from Spondon on Saturdays. No trains will stop at Spondon on Sundays.
All trains will travel to Derby and onto stations to Matlock on the west-bound route and to Nottingham via Long Eaton, Attenborough and Beeston to the east.
