Winter Friends Project

The dark, cold days of winter can be miserable for some people who normally lead independent lives. Bad weather can mean they struggle with everyday tasks, and become isolated and vulnerable.

The Winter Friends project asks people to think about their own circumstances and put in place plans to help them overcome problems before they arise. These might include having snow and ice cleared from paths around their home, having shopping or prescriptions delivered, or even having a lift to an essential appointment. Some people will know who to contact to help them, others may struggle. This project aims to ensure access to a volunteer Winter Friend. The project aims to help disabled people, people living with a long-term medical condition and people aged over 65.

The project is also looking for people who would like to volunteer to be Winter Friends or Winter Champions. Winter Friends are volunteers who help vulnerable people with shopping and everyday tasks during winter and Winter Champions are volunteers who help vulnerable people plan for the help and support they need and liaise with the project to make sure support is in place.
